Snore chart

Partners of snorers in the East Midlands and Northern Ireland suffer most from disturbed sleep, according to a survey by the British Sleep Apnoea & Snoring Association.

Northern Ireland
Nearly 99% of partners get too little sleep, have separate bedrooms, and 60% say it affects their sex life.

East Midlands
Around 92% of partners get insufficient sleep, compared with the national average of 81%; 85% sleep in another room and 42% say it affects their sex life.

South
Up to 85% of partners suffer sleep deprivation, 78% sleep separately, and 43% say it's damaging their love life.

North
Around 84% of partners get insufficient sleep with 74% sleeping separately and 41% have damaged sex lives.

Scotland
Nearly 70% of snorers' partners sleep separately, and 44% say their sex lives are affected.

Snoring Statistics
- Men snore louder than women and in 1993 the Guinness Book Of Records recorded one snore of 93 decibels - almost two-thirds the noise level of a Boeing 747 taking off

- Up to 85% of UK snorers snore every night and 81% of partners of snorers don't get enough sleep, with half of them feeling tired in the morning and a third feeling irritable

- More than half of all couples say snoring affects their sexual relationship, a third admit they hardly ever make love because of snoring, while around 89% of snorers' partners sleep in separate rooms
