Where to live if you want to be 100: Loma Linda

California

Do you want to live to 100? You might want to think about moving to the island of Okinawa in Japan, the highlands of Sardinia, Loma Linda in California or France.

California

While America is not known for being one of the healthiest countries in the world, there is a town in California where people live longer. Loma Linda, 50 miles east of Los Angeles, has the highest percentage of centenarians in the U.S.

The 21,000 inhabitants are mainly Seventh-day Adventists who run the Health Sciences University around which the town is based - and it seems they practise what they preach. They eat a diet based around vegetables, have a strong social support network thanks to the church and volunteer work, and take regular exercise.
